Working like a dog?

Since so much of the real estate industry is based on establishing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, it’s easy for Realtors® to feel their professional life encroaching on their personal lives.

In order to set boundaries and ensure you can keep work life and personal life balanced, it’s important to communicate clearly with clients. Technology has made it possible to speak with clients across the globe whenever you want, but you shouldn’t have to feel as if you are on call, 24 hours a day.

Try these three tips to balance your work as a Realtor® and your personal life:

Establish office hours: Although there may be circumstances where you’re open to be reached around the clock, it’s best to set a standard of when you’re available to take client calls.

Remember it’s a 2-way street: Be open with your clients about when you’re available, and be sure you know when they’re open to taking calls. Respect their time and they’re more likely to respect yours.

Use real estate technology that does work for you: Invest in cloud-based solutions and technologies that help you do more in less time. Having access to your files away from the office can cut down drastically on the amount of time you need to spend running around, giving you back the free time you work hard to enjoy.

No matter how you choose to balance your time, remember it’s important to communicate early and often how you intend to work. Setting expectations is critical to ensuring your client has a positive experience, increases the likelihood they will recommend you to a friend and gives you the balance you need to stay happy as an agent.
